About the Journal

GeoHuman: People, Place, and Power is a regularly published, open-access international scholarly journal. Presented by CV Bumi Spasial in a strategic partnership with the Geographic Information Science Study Program, UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, this journal serves as a platform to explore the critical intersections between human geography, geospatial technologies (GIS), and dimensions of power.

Focus and Scope

GeoHuman explores the critical intersections where human geography, advanced geospatial technologies (such as GIS), and structures of power converge. Our journal serves as a forum for rigorous, original research that investigates how space, place, and landscape are actively shaped by—and, in turn, shape—social, political, and economic relations.

We welcome submissions that employ innovative spatial methodologies to uncover the dynamics of power embedded within diverse environments. These methodologies include, but are not limited to:

  1. GIS and Spatial Analysis
  2. Participatory and Community-Engaged Mapping
  3. Quantitative Spatial Modeling
  4. Mixed-Methods Approaches

The journal's scope encompasses a wide range of themes across urban, rural, and digital landscapes, including:

  1. Geographies of social and environmental justice
  2. Political ecology and resource conflicts
  3. Critical cartography and counter-mapping
  4. Urban governance, planning, and gentrification
  5. Borders, territories, and geopolitics
  6. Digital geographies and the spatiality of power in virtual spaces
  7. Intersectional analyses of space, race, class, and gender

We publish original research articles, comprehensive literature reviews, and in-depth case studies that contribute novel insights to these fields.

Open Access Policy

GeoHuman is committed to the principle that knowledge should be freely available to the public to support a greater global exchange of ideas. Our open access policy ensures:

  1. Immediate Access: All articles are freely available to read, download, copy, and distribute immediately upon publication.
  2. No Author Fees (APCs): There are no Article Processing Charges (APCs) or submission fees. The journal is committed to providing free access to high-quality research without creating financial barriers for authors.
  3. License: All content is published under a **Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This allows anyone to share and adapt the material, provided appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source.

By submitting to the journal, authors grant GeoHuman the right of first publication, licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Sponsorship and Publishing Model

GeoHuman is published by CV Bumi Spasial and is the result of an academic collaboration with the Geographic Information Science Study Program, UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi. This synergistic partnership between a professional publisher and an academic institution aims to promote inclusive and impactful knowledge dissemination. The journal operates on a non-profit basis and is supported by both institutions to maintain its diamond open access model (free for both readers and authors).

Peer Review Process

GeoHuman upholds the highest standards of academic integrity through a rigorous double-blind peer-review process.

  1. Initial Check: Upon submission, all manuscripts undergo an initial check by the editorial team for suitability, adherence to scope, and formatting.
  2. Double-Blind Review: Manuscripts that pass the initial check are sent to at least two independent, expert reviewers. The identities of both the authors and the reviewers are concealed from each other.
  3. Decision: The editorial board makes a final decision based on the reviewers' recommendations, which may be: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject.


This process ensures that all published research is original, significant, and methodologically sound.

History

GeoHuman was founded in 2025 by CV Bumi Spasial and the Geographic Information Science Study Program, UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi to address a growing need for a dedicated platform that critically engages with the intersection of spatial analysis and power dynamics. Recognizing the transformative potential of geospatial technologies in social science research, the journal was established to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and publish methodologically innovative work that makes a tangible impact on both academia and society.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users, authors, and reviewers.

Archiving and Preservation

To ensure the long-term preservation and availability of our digital content, GeoHuman is proudly included in the following archival systems:

  1. CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS): A sustainable, geographically distributed dark archive that ensures the long-term survival of web-based scholarly content.
  2. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): A program that provides libraries and publishers with award-winning, low-cost, open-source digital preservation tools to preserve their scholarly content.

This participation guarantees that the research published in GeoHuman will remain accessible to future generations of scholars and practitioners, even in the event of the journal being no longer published.
