The Socio-Cultural and Psycho-Social Challenges of Implementing Indonesia’s Deradicalization Program: A Literature Review

This study analyzes the challenges of implementing a deradicalization program in Indonesia, namely Law No. 5 of 2018. This research uses a literature study method by collecting data from various sources that are used as references, includingarchives, books, journals, research reports, theses, and dissertations, or other sources that are considered relevant and credible. Secondary sources in research include several documents, such as archives, journals, books, and several sources from social media. The purpose of the research is to find out the challenges of the implementation of the deradicalization program in Indonesia in terms of social culture and psycho-social caused by the less than optimal government policies in the deradicalization program. The results showed that the challenges of implementing the deradicalization program in social culture can be seen from the culture of a society that cannot accept the existence of ex-convicts of terrorism because it will threaten and spread fear in the community. On the psychosocial aspect, the attitude of the community in the form of labelling former terrorist prisoners as a new social status that has no future to change into a better person can be seen. The government needs to conduct evaluations and policies that emphasize the humanitarian side of former terrorist prisoners, because there will be new problems that are born after they come out later in the form of labelling and adaptation of the community environment where they live, which results in former terrorist prisoners.
